Regular No.1 Freddie Woodman has been recalled from his loan by Newcastle United.

The Magpies’ first choice keeper Tim Krul has suffered a major injury to his knee while playing for Holland in a European Championship qualifier in Kazakhstan.

Krul is likely to be out for the rest of the season and as Newcastle’s reserve keeper Karl Darlow is also injured, Woodman is likely to be on the bench in this Sunday’s Premier League game against Norwich at St James’s Park.

Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford said: “Mark (Yates) and Jimmy (Dack) are hard at work identifying a goalkeeper to bring in.

“Choices are limited as the transfer windows are closed. It’s an important position and we don’t want to be stranded with only one ‘keeper.

“Ideally we’d look to get one registered by this weekend. Freddie is a good young pro’ and all the other players have taken to him, as they have to Callum Preston - we wish Freddie the best of luck!”

Yates added: “We’ve been inundated with agents’ calls representing lots of untried boys. We are looking to see if we can afford a more experienced keeper and hope to be able to make a decision in the next 48 hours.”
