Reds recovered from going behind to gain a 3-1 at half-time through goals by Roarie Deacon, Mitch Hancox and Simon Walton from the penalty spot in an incident which led to Orient’s Alan Dunne being sent-off.

Orient then pulled a goal back with nine minutes to go, leaving a nervous final few minutes for Crawley to defend their lead.

Although they have won twice away this season, Crawley’s 3-2 win was their first at home since April 18.

Yates believes this was a weight taken off his shoulders.

He said: “It was vital. Absolutely vital. It’s bin a bugbear of mine that we hadn’t won and something we needed to put right sooner rather than later.

“I was pretty convinced it was going to happen at the weekend. I had a funny feeling as they say. Even when we went one-down I still believed and the players proved that right, they were excellent.

“We had a shaky start. When the lad missed a chance to go 2-0 I thought something’s finally gone our way, particularly here and we were good enough to capitalise on it.

“I’ve just spoken to the boys now - it’s not one win and we’ll settle back and we’re happy now.

“Our season started after 11 games.

“It’s vitally important we build on last week, we build on the goodwill and the support our fans have been giving us particularly here whilst we haven’t been getting the right results.

“It’s important we give them something to shout about again and pick something up out of the game.

“At the moment we are going for the three points, we are trying to win the game like we do every week and there’s a justified belief we have shown we can do that now and we can get two wins on the bounce.”
