Crawley Town quiet on deadline day

No bids were made by manager Dean Saunders to bring in any more players.

Just one bid was made for one undisclosed Crawley player, which could have been captain Joe Walsh, which was rejected.

Chief executive officer Michael Dunford revealed: “We made a few enquiries but we were not able to get over the line. There were lots of phone calls. We did not make any bids and there was only one bid for one of our players which was rejected.”

Manager Dean Saunders had a busy month making seven new signings and sending two players out on loan, Charles Banya to Woking and Ryan Richefond out to Ryman Premier Leatherhead.

The lastest arrival came on Friday with former Coventry City apprentice Lee Fowler on loan from Conference club Nuneaton Borough.

Fowler made the perfect start to his Crawley career on Saturday by coming off the bench to score the late winner to beat Preston North End 2-1.

Saunders said: “I definitely feel we have strengthened the squad during January and we could see on Saturday that the players we have brought in are having a positive influence all over the pitch.

“There’s a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead of us but we will go into the Yeovil game on Saturday with a bit more confidence.”

He had wanted to make at least one more signing before Monday’s deadline.

He will have to wait now until the emergency loan window reopens on Tuesday.
