Emmett began playing competitive football in 2010 with St Bonaventure Bonnies University team near Buffalo in New York State.

He played 57 league games for them, scoring nine goals, in the Atlantic 10 League against other colleges and university teams across eastern America.

Last season he played for Scarborough City Celtic in the Ontario Soccer League.

Manager John Gregory said: “Emmett was recommended to us, paid his own way over here to try and earn himself a contract and he has really impressed myself and the staff here.

“He works hard, has got plenty of skill and an end product in terms of his crossing and finishing.

“He is desperate to forge a career in English football. His background is a bit unusual but he’s a fit lad with a lot of talent. We’ve got a small squad this season so everyone has to be ready to play and Emmett will play his part I have no doubt.”

Emmett said: “It has always been an ambition of mine to play in England and I am delighted to be a Crawley Town player. It’s a big opportunity for me. I have really enjoyed the three weeks I have been with the squad and my aim now is to push on and hopefully be part of the squad on a regular basis.”
