He was released by MK Dons at the end of last season.

Reds boss John Gregory has agreed a two-year contract with the 29-year-old having given him his professional debut at Derby County in 2002.

At MK he scored 62 goals in 130 league and cup appearances, which earned him a £1.1m move to Charlton Athletic in 2007.

He scored four goals in 39 appearances for Charlton and had loan spells with Colchester, Millwall and Peterborough before his career took off again in 2010 at Barnet where he scored 36 goals in 74 matches.

That form earned him a move to Portsmouth and 11 goals in 26 starts at Fratton Park. He then returned to MK Dons for a second time and scored 11 times in 53 appearances. There was also a brief loan spell at Northampton last season.

Manager John Gregory said: “We’re really pleased to get Izale here. Throughout his career he has scored goals and coming to Crawley, at this stage of his career, is a fresh challenge, which I think he will appreciate. He’s quick, strong and a lethal finisher. I have worked with him before and know what he is capable of and I’m delighted to welcome him to the club.

“He is a proven goalscorer at this level - something we lacked last season.”

Izale said: “I had a good chat with the manager John Gregory and he sold the ambition of the club to me really well. It’s almost going to be a new team next season and I am looking forward to being part of it and doing what I know best which is scoring goals.”

Gregory added: “We are very confident of bringing in another two new players later this week.”
