Reds’ match-winner last weekend Gavin Tomlin reckons they can carry their newly-gained confidence under Dean Saunders into their next match and beat Nigel Clough’s team who are currently fifth in the League One table.

He said: “Apart from that one result we have been pretty good at home under the new manager, so it’s about continuing that form and taking the points.

“We have got a got a lot of speed up front with myself, (Mathias) Pogba, Izale (McLeod) and Gwion (Edwards) to hit teams on the counter-attack, so it’ll be a good game.”

Tomlin reckons Crawley should have come away from Bramall Lane with a better result than a 1-0 defeat they suffered in August, which was not a true reflection of the game.

He said: “We actually dominated the game up there and deserved more than we got. I think we deserved at least a point from that game, so we will carry the confidence from the last couple of games and believe that we can get three points, especially at home.

“Confidence breeds better performance and players come out of their shell a little bit more. You can see what has happened in the last two games so we just need to continue that.”

Reds are expecting a bumper crowd boosted by several hundred Blades fans and they could also see a lot more home fans at the Checkatrade.com Stadium following their recent improved performances.

Crawley go into the game on the back of two spectacular wins in their last two matches against Barnsley (5-1) and away to second-placed Swindon Town (2-1).

On Monday, striker Matt Harrold joined League Two Cambridge United on loan until the end of the season.

The out-of-favour forward, who joined the club last summer from Bristol Rovers, has made 21 appearances for Reds including seven starts. His solitary goal came against Notts County in October.

Saunders said: “Matt needs to get games under his belt and this is a good opportunity for him at a level he knows well where he has scored goals in the past. We’ll be monitoring his progress and wish him well at Cambridge.”

New central defender Richard Wood has joined on a one-month emergency loan from Championship side Rotherham.

Reds visited East Sussex to play Eastbourne Borough in a friendly last night (Tuesday).

Head coach Paul Groves said: “It is an opportunity for those who haven’t had a lot of game time recently to get 90 minutes under their belt against a very good standard of opposition.”
