Deacon hopes to keep firing for Crawley

The former Arsenal forward netted twice in their comfortable win away to Cambridge on Saturday - matching his goal tally from Stevenage last season already.

He was snapped up by Crawley over the summer after impressing on his trial and was handed a one-year deal by Reds.

Goals were hard to come by last year as the 23-year-old notched just twice in 43 appearances for Boro, but the young forward is hoping there are plenty more to come.

He said: “A few games in getting two goals and getting my feet on the ground, hopefully I can get many more for the rest of the season.

“It was a very good performance from the boys, obviously scoring goals is great for myself personally, but the clean sheet is even more important as we want to go into every game keeping clean sheets.

“We know if we keep clean sheets, we have the players and ability to go forward and score goals. Obviously Izale scored lots of goals for the club last year, but he has moved on now so it is down to the boys that are here now to score the goals for the club and push the club back into League One.

“I just want to play as many games as I can, score as many goals as I can and play as well as I can for the whole season. I just want to get my head down and keep going.

“We are all good players, so if one don’t play or whatever the formation the manager wants us to play then we will help each other along. Hopefully, all of us can chip in with a lot of goals this year to push Crawley forwards.

“We haven’t got anyone to fear in this league. We know we can beat anyone on our day so we have to go out there everyday and perform to the best of our ability.”

And on life so far at Crawley, Deacon added: “It’s been a tough start, but I am loving in down here.

“The players are fantastic, the staff are fantastic, everyone around the club is fantastic and we know that we are a very good team and if we do well this year then no-one can stop us.”
