Essam goes out on loan

Crawley centre back Connor Essam has been allowed to go out on loan for a month, joining Conference Premier side Dartford today (Friday).

The 21-year-old has found opportunities limited so far this season, making only one start and not being named amongst the substitutes in a number of games.

He featured prominently last season when Reds were short at the back because of injuries and he could go straight into the Dover side to play Gateshead on Saturday.

Crawley manager Richie Barker said: “Connor needs games and he will get plenty of opportunities in the next month at a club quite close to where he lives.

“He is still an important part of my plans but he needed to get matches under his belt and we wish him well.”

Striker Jonte Smith has returned from his month-long loan spell with Met Police, while yesterday winger Kyle Bennett returned to Doncaster Rovers with his loan deal expiring.
