FA CUP: Reds chief executive thanks fans

ALAN Williams has said a special thank you to the Crawley fans who made themselves heard at Old Trafford.

The 9,000 Reds supporters were never silent from the moment they got into the ground right up until they left, drowning out the home support despite being seven times as small in numbers.

Having made the long trip up to Manchester they cheered their brave side to have a real go at the Premiership champions before succumbing to a narrow 1-0 defeat, and the Crawley chief executive paid them special praise.

He said: “They out sang Manchester United, and there were 64,000 more of them.

“We made a lot of noise, and speaking to the players after the game they were absolutely beside themselves with the ovation and the reception they gave them and we’d like to thank every single one of them who made it up here.”

Williams spoke to Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton after the game and he told him Crawley deserved a draw, and he added: “If that man thinks it should have been a draw I’ll go along with that.”
