He wanted to highlight the good work by his players in pulling around to win 3-2 after going behind in the first eight minutes against the team which was third in the table.

Orient took the early lead from short-range through Jay Simpson which Reds responded in fine style to with first half goals by Roarie Deacon, Mitch Hancox and Simon Walton, from the penalty spot.

The visitors rallied during the second half pulled a goal back with a second by Simpson which left a nervous nine minutes left to defend, plus six minutes of added-time.

Yates said: “I feel relief and delight we have got the three points.

“We are not in the habit of winning too often, particularly here. People are a little bit nervous with a bit of apprehension in the crowd.

“Credit to the players, they stuck at it and got what they deserved.

“We had the first real bit of luck that we’ve had with a miss and we capitalised on it. It wasn’t brilliant today, it was tough.

“The last half hour of the first half and first ten minutes of the second we played some really good stuff and showed what we can do.

“We stopped making the right decisions, credit to them, they threw everything at us, changed formation, went three at the back and they have some really good players at the top end of the pitch, they are always going to be a threat for us.”

Yates praised goalkeeper Callum Preston for keeping his side ahead on his debut with a vital save.

“We rode our luck at times, Callum made a great save with his feet at 3-1 and we could have scored a couple more.

“But I’m not going to bemoan the players, they deserve a win, deserve a pat on the back and can come back next Saturday with a bit more confidence and belief.

“It has to lift us, we went from Newport with a win to a really tough one against Plymouth and got done in the last minute which was tough to take.

“We showed lots of character today and hopefully we’ll have a good week on the training ground and build on what we’ve done.”
