He insisted John Gregory remains the club’s permanent manager and he was only in place until the end of the season until Gregory recovered from heart surgery.

Saunders did however admit he could be prepared to take on the job on a full-time basis.

He said: “I obviously like the place and I like working for the club. The board have been good to me workwise, but there are lots of things to add up.

“I am not the actual manager, John Gregory is the manager and it’s his job. I am just the interim manager my contract ends today (Sunday) or my job is done today and as far as I know he is the manager.

“I have not really spoken about what is going to happen next year, that will happen on Tuesday.

“So on Tuesday we will have a chat with everybody and see which is the way forwards then.

“There are lots of things to take into consideration, like I have always thought as long as I have got a chance to do well it’s a decent job.

“As I said, I don’t know what the board are thinking, what the people that fund the club are thinking, so we will find out on Tuesday.”
