Still expects Rooney will want to prove a point

Crawley Town winger Luke Rooney will be out to prove a point when he takes to the field against his old side this afternoon according to Luton boss John Still.

It was Still who released Rooney in March despite the wideman being Town’s top goalscorer at the time with five goals.

He moved to Crawley during the summer where he is yet to score in 10 appearances, although Still believes there are other players to wach out for within the Red Devils’ ranks too.

He said: “I was thinking that, there’s Luke who will want to do well against us, while Matty Harrold plays upfront too.

“Matty’s my son’s friend, so I see a lot of Matt. I’ve had him on loan when I was at Dagenham, he will be up for it. Gavin Tomlin is there as well, I really rated Gavin highly, he came to Dagenham and didn’t do as well as he could have done, but he’s a player who wants to do well.

“I know Rhys Murphy from his Arsenal time too and from playing at Dagenham. He got a move to Oldham, for whatever reason it didn’t work for him, but he’s a dangerous customer, a decent player.

“They’ve got two or three decent players, and I’m sure the players will look forward to this game, playing against Luton.

“But we’ve got lots of players who want to do well too, so I think it has got the makings of a really entertaining game.”

Still has been a long-time admirer of Crawley boss Mark Yates from his Cheltenham days too, as he added: “They picked up a good win last week against Leyton Orient and the management team there are good lads.

“Mark spent quite a while at Cheltenham, I thought he did well there and was very unlucky to lose his job.

“He’s got Jimmy Dack working for him, Jim’s been around football for quite a few years, they’re hard working people.

“So we’ll have to be that focused and that determined and show all the qualities that we’ve got to try and get three points.”
