VIDEO: John Gregory: ‘This was the first time I’ve looked behind me’

Crawley Town manager John Gregory revealed today was the first time he had looked below Reds in the table after their 2-1 defeat at home by Crewe left them within three points of the relegation zone.

He also admitted he would have settled for a point from the game just to break the current losing run.

Gregory said: ”The second half was a much better performance. When we got back to 1-1 there was only going to one winner and we would’ve actually settled for a point at that stage of the game but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s game after game after game for everyone and we’ve tried to mix it up. I thought Gary Dicker and Sergio Torres were probably our two best players today because they came in very fresh.

“It’s probably the amount of games which have started to tell on one or two. They’re not quite as fresh as they have been and not got the same the impetus they had, like when we played Wolves which is barely three weeks ago and since then we’ve not won.

“Jamie Proctor scored a terrific goal today and has deserved it. I’d like to see two or three more from the six-yard box. Whenever he’s come on as a substitute he’s always worked exceptionally hard and caused problems which he has again today.

“He missed a header from two or three metres and then scored one from 25 metres!

“I’ve never been able to fault Jamie for his considerable level of effort in every game he has played.

“It doesn’t disguise the fact that we haven’t scored enough goals of late and we have found ourselves defeated in the last five games, which is a huge shock to me.

“That’s the first time I’ve looked behind me. Some of the scores have not been good for us. Even though we have three and sometimes four games to play on others, I would much rather have points on the board.”
