Daily Mail follows up on Poyet’s possible Midlands move

The Daily Mail is linking Brighton boss Gus Poyet to a trio of Midlands management jobs - a week after we first raised the rumour.

Writing on the newspaper’s website today Neil Ashton speculates that West Brom, Wolves and Aston Villa are all weighing up a potential move for the talented Seagull boss.

This is seven days after we ran our online story, Poyet linked to three Midlands management jobs, which came on the back of the manager being installed as 2/1 favourite to start the season in the Wolverhampton hotseat.

That article was based purely on his price at the bookies and online rumour-mongers suggesting he could be on his way – written as much to highlight the likelihood of a summer of speculation rather than to reveal a definite move for the Brighton boss.

However, according to the Mail, Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace is preparing an official approach to Tony Bloom after Sunday’s final round of Premier League games.

Brighton fans however should not be worried just yet. Poyet has already said any job offer would have to be special to lure him away from The Amex and this latest link is not expected to be anything more than rumours.

However, the chance to rebuild a club the size of Aston Villa in his own image would surely appeal to Poyet. Whether a move to Wolves would be considered anything other than a sideways step is less clear.
