Exeter City v Crawley Town preview: Reds looking to continue impressive record in Devon

St James’ Park has also been a place where Crawley tend to pick up results, with an impressive record in Devon. The Reds haven’t lost at Exeter since the 2007/08 season where they lost 2-0.

Since then Crawley have proved to be a bogey team for Exeter, as Crawley always tend to claim a result from them. Despite, this it has been mainly draws at St James’ Park since then, with the only exception being the 3-1 win for Crawley in the 2018/19 season, with goals from Filipe Morais and a brace from Reece Grego-Cox. It’s a contest between the two sides where the away team normally ends the game with a better result as the results last season suggested.

At the People’s Pension Stadium Exeter came away 1-0 winners, whereas at St James’ Park it was a 1-1 draw.

Crawley will look to extend their good run at Exeter and put themselves in good spirits after the second half demolition of Morecambe. A brace from Max Watters on his league debut and goals for Tyler Frost and George Francomb gave Crawley a fantastic victory against the league leaders at the start of the day.

Watters has begun his Crawley career excellently, with a goal in the EFL Trophy against Arsenal U21s and a brace against Morecambe. He could be in line to partner former Exeter player Tom Nichols up front.

Opponents Exeter City are currently unbeaten in four games and occupy 12th in League Two. It’s been a steady start for the Grecians, who have lost just one league game all season. However, they have drawn too many games, which has led them to be in mid table despite a good start to the season. Their last two results have been draws, with a 2-2 draw with Southend and a 0-0 draw with Walsall more recently.

This will only be Exeter’s third home game of the season, with both of their previous home games ending 2-0. One of which was a 2-0 defeat against Port Vale, who also beat Crawley 2-0, and the other was a 2-0 win over current league leaders Cambridge United.

This shows that Exeter are a very good side on their day but lack some consistency. Crawley will hope to catch them on a bad day and start to build their own consistency and pick up back-to-back wins.
