A first for Mid Sussex girls’ football

Congratulations to St Wilfrid’s girls’ football team, who as the first Sussex champions from Mid Sussex, played so well at the Gallagher Stadium (home of Maidstone FC and England Girls football).

This prestigious competition took place on Saturday 8th March and our girls represented Sussex after coming through all the various regional levels of competition. The standard was extremely high as expected and though Sussex did not get through to the semi-finals, our girls put up an excellent show of skill and determination.

During the day we were able to watch the England v Ireland Under 15s Girls’ football match (won by England 8-0) and at half time the various county teams met with the Minister of Sport (and MP for Maidstone) Helen Grant to be presented with their medals and to also receive the trophy for the school.

We are so proud of our girls, Olivia Hudson, Abbie Burrows, Isobel Johnson, Rae Rothwell (Capt.) Libby Ackland-Hancock, Leonie Sargent, Natasha Rothwell, Gemma Hebditch and Ellie Holness.
