Green’s proud cup runends and late penaltysave denies Heath

Wivelsfield Green’s fine League Cup run ended in the semi finals but they went out with heads held high.

The run had already included a scalp from the division above but this time South Park proved a little too strong as they won 4-0.

An unlucky richochet put Green behind early on but Katie Lambert defended well alongside Sarah Smart.

Green looked dangerous on the break as Kim Hughes and Emma Chrimes worked tirelessly up front.

An unstoppable free kick made it 2-0 but Green rallied late in the half and came out after the break in confident mood. Camilla Chapman was impressive at right back and with ever-presents Donna Cox and Lizzie Neatherway busy in midfield, it looked hopeful until Green were rocked back by a third goal. The soft fourth then came late on.

A penalty save two minutes from time denied Haywards Heath 2nds a draw with leaders Worthing after captain Sian Ford-Hunt superbly fired them ahead on 27 minutes. And it could have been 2-0 three minutes later as Lou Creasey hit a post and a close range follow-up effort by PoM Jinny Ursell was somehow cleared off the line.
