Hailsham come from 2-0 down to beat St Francis

But Steve Dallaway (35), Dan Bateman (75) and Pat Johnson (81) completed an incredible comeback.

Hailsham boss Andy Goodchild says “I never stopped believing in my team. There were a lot of critics, knockers and doubters that thought we were automatic relegation fodder. What they failed to do was look away from our lowly league position, brought about from a legacy of losses early in the season when rebuilding a team from scratch, and focus on our form since November. In 2014 we have played 16 league games, won 8, drawn 2 and lost 6. If you win more than you loose it is a top ten run rate in any league. The resilience of my team has been second to known that I have experienced before.

“The performance against St Francis epitomises the Dunkirk spirit in our squad. Yet again we conceded two soft goals early on in the first 15 minutes and have to fight our way back into the game but we have shown the character necessary to gain the much needed and well deserved 3 points.

“The other teams around us at the bottom all lost so it cements our situation in the run-in. Whilst still mathematically possible that we could be the third club to go down I think it is now very unlikely and with 3 wins on the bounce and 4 games unbeaten I think we are the form team in the relegation mini-league. I still maintain that Selsey are the likely contenders and with a number of clubs playing each other at the bottom on the last day of the season I think it will got to the wire.”
