Haywards Heath boss Andrews left disappointed

Haywards Heath Town manager Ryan Andrews was disappointed by his team’s loss of concentration as two second half goals from Division 2 leaders Worthing United saw them snatch all three points at Hanbury Park on Saturday.

Worthing’s Jacob Schilt and Sam Blundell’s early strikes in the second half helped them maintain their two point advantage on top and handed Heath their second defeat in a row.

Boss Andrews felt that early period after the break is what ultimately ended the game for them. He said: “We played well. We nullified them for a large period of the game. We switched off for ten minutes in the early party of the second half and that cost us.

“I think it is disappointing when you have got a game plan and you stick to it and then just two errors which does it all. That is the level that we are at I suppose.”

The first error, which he branded as a “gift”, came when Heath’s failure to clear the ball from their final third landed at the feet of Schilt at the edge of the box and he drove it into the bottom corner. The second came when a poor touch at the edge of the area from a Heath player was collected by Worthing and crossed in to Blundell, who had simple task of tapping it in.

Heath face Wick and Barnham United at home this Saturday in what is their third encounter this season. Andrews feels if they produce the performance they did for majority of the game against Worthing, they can win this match.

He added: “They have beaten us twice this season, so we have to take it seriously. As I said before I think anyone can beat anyone in this league, there is no team in it that really stands out as really good sides for me anyway.

“I know that Worthing United are top but they are certainly beatable, and Wick are no different.”
