Haywards Heath Football Club boss Shaun Saunders admitted everyone involved with his side are buzzing after they sealed promotion on Saturday.

Heath’s 2-0 home success over Steyning Town ensured they will be playing Southern Combination League Premier Division next season.

It’s been a remarkable campaign for Heath who have lost just once in the league this season.

That defeat came on the opening day to Southwick but since that point Saunders’ side have won 24 successive league games.

Saunders feels Saturday’s promotion was just rewards for everyone involved with the club.

He said: “Everyone was buzzing after finally sealing promotion on Saturday. We’ve been on a remarkable run conceded we lost our first two matches of the season.

“I think that was a real wake-up call and after that we have been fantastic.

“It’s not just myself and the players that deserve this but everyone involved with this team.

“This club has not been in the top league for a while and it’s nice to get them back to the top league in the Southern Combination Football League.”

The hard work does not stop for Saunders now, though, as he wants his side to go on a lift the Division 1 title.

With seven games still to play. Heath know wins in just two of those will be enough to see them crowned champions.

Saunders and his side could well seal the title as early as Monday with two games coming over the course of three days over Easter.

Heath entertain Saltdean United on Saturday, before making the trip to in-form Mile Oak two days later.

And Heath’s boss wants them to wrap the title up sooner rather than later.

He said: “The initial aim was to seal promotion now we’ve done that and want the title.

“The hard work does not stop now. There is no easy game in this league so those final two wins will be difficult but we want that league title.

“We want to try and get it as soon as possible and if we can do that by Monday that would be a great achievement.”
