Haywards Heath Town boss Shaun Saunders confident club's fortunes will change

Heath have had a rollercoaster road since the end of last season with changes on and off the pitch.

And they are currently winless this season - with only a point against Burgess Hill Town to show for their efforts.

But Saunders believes they are in a false position and and club that is on the up.

He said: “There’s a been a lot of change and to be fair it’s been unsettling for everybody but we are starting to stabilise and starting to get somewhere.

“I am enjoying this challenge, it’s different for sure but it’s a challenge we are well up for. Our fortunes will change.”

One of the changes has seen Steve Ishwerwood replacing Mick Cottingham as chairman, and Saunders believes he is having an instant impact.

He said: “Steve has come in and done an unbelievable job in the space of a couple of weeks. He’s been so aggressive and active in stabilising and getting his infrastructure in place.”

And now Saunders is trying to stabilise his team and start moving them up the table. “I have been actively chopping and changing the team and putting square pegs in round holes at the moment,” he said: “I am pretty sure we are getting somewhere now. League results have not been great for us but our league position is a false one.

“It’s really exciting the five year plan that has been put in place. It’s one I buy into.

“The club’s growing, crowds are on the up, there’s a good buzz about the place, but results are not matching and that’s something we need to address.”

And Saunders is hoping to bring in some players in the next couple of weeks.

He said: “I am working really hard to bring in the three or four players that I feel we need to make us really competitive.

“I am hopeful there will be a couple in by the end of the week. We have approached some players via the seven-day ruling.

“It’s probably going to be a rocky couple of weeks but we will get there and I am optimistic about the club’s plans and this challengethat we find ourselves in we are up for it.”

Heath lost to Welwyn Garden City in the FA Trophy on Saturday but will be looking to bounce back against high-flying Hythe Town on Saturday.
