He said: "I am stepping down as chairman from now. I am going to be vice-chairman. We have got a new chairman coming in who I think will push the club forward."

Cottingham announced that the new chairman would be Steve Isherwood, who runs the junior section at the club.

He said: "We thought he [Isherwood] has got a lot more experience. I have done five or six years and they have been the best years I have done. I have run out of ideas now to get the club moving any further. But I will still be connected with the club but as a vice-chairman and still help out.

"As far as I am concerned it needs someone new there to push the club forward. It is a big change but one for the best. I am doing it for the club, not for me. The club is more than me.

"This all depends on the committee agreeing to it all but I think everybody will go with this."
