Hillians Ladies celebrate new sponsorship with win

Mishon Mackay Land & New Homes, who are based in Hove, covering the city and Mid Sussex area, have sponsored the shirts for the remainder of this season and next season for Hillians 1st and 2nd Teams, both who play in the South East Counties Football Womens League.

Ladies General Tony McDonald said “This is an excellent Sponsorship for a very young group of players who are starting to find their feet in this competitive League structure.

Hillians Ladies consolidated 5th spot in this highly competitive league with a 2-1 victory over Crockenhill.

The hosts were forced to make changes from the 6- 0 win of the previous week as a result of injuries. Meanwhile the visitors were buoyed by some new players since the last encounter when Hillians won 3-0.

As it was Hillians were slow getting into their stride and the visitors game plan of the central midfield playmaker laying the ball wide was starting to pay dividends. Tracey Smith in goal had to be at her sharpest to nullify several threats on goal.

Eventually the hosts started to exert some control and made some telling runs. With 20 minutes gone a high though ball saw Keeley Wheatly racing with the defender for possession. The keeper advanced and the Burgess Hill striker calmly headed the ball over her and into the empty net for 15 yards. Hillians continued to take the game to Crockenhill and after several corners a perfectly delivered set piece from Naomi Robinson found the head of Wheatley who hammered home from 8 yards.

It was however the visitors who then started to find some rhythm and several chances went begging. However the pressure told on the Hillians defence and a badly judged pass followed by a missed tackle saw the visitors striker place home from 10 yards and the 2-1 half time score was perhaps a fair reflection of the 1st half.

Hillians sustained a few niggling injuries in the 2nd half which upset their rhythm however they soaked up some early Crockenhill possession. Eventually further injuries took their toll and they were faced with a significant Crockenhill period of sustained pressure.

However whilst Smith in goal made a few telling dives at the feet of opponents the whole team worked hard to the end to secure the points. Naomi Robinson was player of the match and Wheatlys brace is worthy of mention as it increased her lead at the top of this competitive leagues goal scoring chart.
