Hurst boss Bill Clifford said: “Not scoring enough goals has been our Achilles Heel this season but we came good and even managed to score a penalty, using our fifth penalty taker.”

Full back Simon Whitney was given the job when Ed Bartram cleverly won what was a clear spot kick after only 12 minutes.

Clifford admitted it was not a good performance in the first half but Hurst were on the way to easy street when Trevor Wilson scored a fine individual goal just four minutes after the break.

When Ed Bartram then passed the ball in for No 3 it looked like being so but the visitors replied immediately when Scott Turner headed in a corner.

But Hurst finally wrapped up a comfortable win with a Karl Gumbrell goal as Rottingdean started to lose their discipline.

Tragedy struck in the last minute when Adam Boswood went over on a bobbly surface and broke his leg in two places.
