"It was about being up for the fight" - Crawley Town midfielder Jack Powell on battling for a point against Walsall

The Reds left it late as Tom Nicholls smashed home an injury-time penalty to give Crawley a much-deserved point.

"[It was a] bit of a scrappy one," said Powell. "Much like a few of the games we've had recently. The ball spent a lot of time in the air and it was about being up for the fight.

"Fairplay to them [Walsall]. They gave it a really good go considering the form they are in. You going to get teams scrapping for their lives, trying to pick up as many points as they can.

"I thought we created the best chances in the games, even in the first half when we were under a bit of pressure."

The late equaliser means Crawley have picked up ten points from 12, and have extended an unbeaten run at home that stretches to five matches. Yes, the result on the night wasn't perfect, but the Reds are heading in the right direction.

"That's the way you have to look at it, how many points you've picked up" explained Powell, who made the jump to the Football League back in 2019.

"To win three on the bounce and to pick up a point tonight - I hope that helps with some momentum going onto Saturday."

Next up for the Reds is a long trip to Barrow. The Bluebirds may be 22nd in League Two, but turned over top-of-the-table Cheltenham Town 2-0, on Tuesday evening.

"I've been there a couple of times," added Powell. "It's a hell of a trip.

"Every game is going to be tough. It's strange without the fans - home and away doesn't make much difference.

"We go there confident with our recent run of form and hopefully we can pick up the three points".
