She claimed both the under-14 singles and doubles titles at the U11-U14 National Championships in Doncaster – her last appearance at the event before stepping up to the Cadet and Junior Championships next season.

Second seed Cheer was largely untroubled in her progress to the final, though she did drop a set to Isabelle Joubeily in the last four.

She faced top seed and fellow England international Denise Payet in the final and Cheer shaded a close match 11-6, 14-12, 10-12, 11-9 to add the U14 title to her previous victories at U11 and U13.

Cheer said: “I think I did really well today, I think it’s one of my best Nationals – I just wanted to win more because it’s my last one at this age.”

Cheer then combined with Payet to romp to the doubles title without dropping a set. The pair defeated second seeds Joubeily and Amy Blagborough 11-3, 11-4, 11-7 in the final.

Coach and dad Barry Cheer said: “She did really well at the weekend only dropping two sets overall - one of them in the semi-final and another in the final.

“In the doubles they won the title without dropping a set.

“The top seeds did not concede more than eight points in a single set as they ran through the rounds to set up a final against second seeds Isabelle Joubeily and Amy Blagborough and they kept up their blistering form to clinch the trophy with an comfortable 3-0 victory in the final.”

Kate’s hard work and determination is paying off as she has represented England this year at both the Spanish Youth Open and the Cadet Six Nations.

She has also been selected for the Schools Invitation Only Event which will be held in Cardiff at the end of June.

Kate is looking forward to training hard for the Heritage Oil Open which is being held at K2 on July 4-6, which features many of the leading men and women in England.
