Lavant are the six hitters - but it's five past the reserves

Lavant’s winning run continued with a third victory on the trot as they visited a muddy and windswept Church Lane.

Ashington keeper Charlie Smith was in action early on as he pulled of a great save from Ryan Seacombe.

The young goalkeeper seemed to have it in for Seacombe when he denied him again eight minutes later but left winger Dan Cowell drove home the rebound from 18 yards to open Lavant’s account.

Seacombe produced a sweet backheel to put Darren Cox clear and he scored to double Lavant’s lead. Despite Stuart Loversidge forcing another great save from Smith, Lavant manager David Parker was furious with his team for losing discipline and shape in an effort to go on a goal spree.

This message was driven home at the break and Lavant went 3-0 up through Cox within a minute.

The visitors played in a more consistent and disciplined manner, resulting in a better defensive performance and three more goals.

Midfielder Dave Knight made it 4-0 in the 55th minute and Loversidge tapped home eight minutes later from two yards after Smith had blocked Seacombe again.

Then came the goal of the game 12 minutes from time when superb combination play by Cox and Knight left Matt Stevens to sweetly strike a 25-yarder into the top corner to end a workmanlike performance.

Division three south

This game was played at a fast and furious pace as Lavant and Tangmere tried to maintain their challenge for the league title.

Tangmere drew first blood, scoring from a free-kick on the edge of the box which gave keeper Tom Turner no chance. Joe Hepworth, making his first appearance for Lavant this season, struck an equaliser into the top corner.

Lavant’s influential centre-back Martin Ayres went off injured. Ross Lines replaced him.

Tangmere took advantage of a forced formation change as their pacy forward ran through to score.

A corner was headed clear and Hepworth chested the ball down and volleyed it in. Then Lines was on the end of a move to put Lavant in front for the first time.

But a hurried back pass saw Turner miskick the ball into his own net.

Tangmere seemed more determined from the restart and Turner was unluckily beaten.

Turner produced a number of acrobatic saves but with Lavant arguing with the referee over the decision to award a free-kick, Tangmere quickly took the kick and made it 5-3.

Lavant manager Cliff Massey said: “We went into this game somewhat under strength. However if our passing and overall possession had been better and if we had kept more focused, we could have got something out of the game.”
