Francomb scored the second in the 3-2 win at Oldham Athletic with a thunderbolt from 25 yards.

And Yems knows the 29-year-old has that in his locker. He said: “If you have a look back at last week he nearly scored one similar against Scunthorpe United.

“Let’s hope he gets a few more like that.”

Yems made Francomb captain at the start of the season and knows he was the right man for the job.

He said: “ He’s a good player George and deserved to be captain and he leads by example.

“I think you notice the difference in the players around him.

“He’s got the responsibility and the players respect him.”

The skipper was delighted with his strike and in the post match interview he said: “It weren’t bad that was it?! Nadders [Ashley Nadesan] set it off to Nathan [Ferguson] and it missed him, it just came to me and, well, pick that that one out.”

Crawley Town have a young squad but have a good mix of experience and youth. But Yems doesn’t want anyone getting carried away after the last two wins.

He said: “We have got a lot of young players in the side, I think someone said we have an average age of 23 or 24. We have a good mix of players but we have won two games of football, that’s all we have done.

“Let’s not get carried away. We all know with this league, or any league, if you are not on your game and the other team are you are going to get beat.”

The Reds face Southend United at the People’s Pension Stadium on Saturday and, at the time of going to press, Yems has a fully fit squad to pick from. Southend are winless and pointless after their first three league games.
