Not much Dr Jekyll but sadly forRobins there’s plenty of Mr Hyde

Both sides were below strength, Robins without the league’s leading scorer Phil Gault and Ringmer having seen three players depart to Ryman 1 club Walton Casuals.

Early signs were encouraging with an open game in prospect and the hosts taking the lead on nine minutes when Elliott Butler pulled the ball back for Jamie Weston to neatly beat his man and get in a shot. It may have been going just wide before Ringmer’s Louie Munnery turned the ball in but there was enough doubt to legitimately give the goal to Weston.

At the other end Simon Lehkyj saved well from Scott Marshall before on 24 minutes Hassocks skipper Stuart Faith headed against the bar from a Butler corner and straight after Tom Rand saved well from Nathan Miles.

After the break the home performance tailed off alarmingly. Faith failed to reappear because of a knee injury and Weston lasted only eight minutes as he was troubled by a bruised hip sustained in the midweek win at East Court.

Most things tailed off, with tempers fraying on the pitch, the two benches engaging in more than just friendly banter and referee Michael Ryan suddenly deeming it necessary to make some unnecessary bookings after looking comfortably in control before that.

At least Ringmer bucked the trend and deservedly took the points thanks to two goals by half time sub Robbie Frost.

His pace unsettled the home defence and the equaliser on 69 minutes had been coming for some time. Another injury, this time to Anthony Hibbert, further disrupted Hassocks but they looked like holding on until Frost struck again five minutes from time.
