Peterborough 0, Albion 0: Seagulls go fourth

Albion have leapfrogged Crystal Palace into fourth place despite being held to a 0-0 draw at Peterborough.

The Seagulls struck the crossbar on two occasions during their trip to London Road but were unable to put the ball past Robert Olejnik between the Posh sticks.

At the other end, Tommy Rowe missed the opportunity of the game when he failed to hit the target from a matter of yards out, leaving Darren Ferguson’s men just one point from safety.

The home side had the better of the early stages, with Danny Swanson striking twice within the first five minutes - the latter forcing a fine save from Tomasz Kuszczak.

Albion midfielder Dean Hammond came close to giving his side the lead but his header eventually fell wide of the target, before Matt Upson was forced to watch his powerful header cannon off the underside of the bar.

Tommy Rowe and Grant McCann both had efforts fly harmlessly off target just before the break as a result of silly fouls on the edge of the area by Upson and Gordon Greer respectively.

David Lopez tried his luck from range shortly after the break, but a brave deflection from Rowe forced the ball wide of the goal before Wayne Bridge’s drilled shot saw the same conclusion.

Andrew Crofts then found himself as the focal point of home supporters’ frustration after he was deemed to have tripped Lee Tomlin whilst he was through on goal, only for referee Robert Madley to wave play on.

Posh pushed for a winner and the entire crowd thought they had snatched it when Tomlin’s pinpoint cross found Rowe at the back post with the whole goal gaping, but he could only skew it wide.

The game came to a close shortly after Andrew Croft’s improvised header smashed the bar and flew over.
