Renaissance team Rangerswin again but Hurst slip up

Two goals apiece from skipper Aaron Walsh and striker Kieran Pamment completed the job despite manager Geoff Pitcher having to box and cox with his team.

With Walsh and the influential Brannon O’Neil suspended this Saturday, Pitcher decided to put Dan Lawrence and Tom Barnes on the bench to ensure they will be able to cover for the absent stars. Neither was used.

 Walsh struck from a Dan Maskell free kick after 12 minutes and seven minutes later Pamment scored a fine individual goal.

On the stroke of half time Pamment then prospered from an O’Neil shot to put the result beyond doubt.

The only goal of the second half came from a Walsh penalty after 76 minutes.

Pitcher said: “In a couple of recent games were weren’t at our best but that’s understandable with so many games to be played. This was a good win and helps our bid to finish as high as we can.”

Rangers also have a League Cup semi final to look forward to against Division 2 leaders Littlehampton next Wednesday at Worthing United.

Also on Tuesday Division 3 Hurstpierpoint’s fine run came to an end as they lost 4-0 at Billingshurst.

Hurst were unbeaten in the league since December 8 but manager Bill Clifford admitted they had an off night as they slipped to their biggest defeat of the season.
