It wasn't the start Simon Wormull wanted as his first game as head coach for Burgess Hill Town ended in a 1-0 defeat to Kingstonian.

The newly-appointed head coach made two changes to the side who picked up all three points against Margate last Saturday, re-introducing Billy Barker to the starting XI.

The visitors started well, with Alfie Doughty causing the Hillians problems with his pace. Both sides struggled to stamp their authority on the remainder of the half, with clear-cut opportunities at a premium.

In the 41st minute, Andre McCollin saw his thunderous effort rebound back off the crossbar. Moments later, a potential handball on the Kingstonian line was waved away by the referee.

Wormull introduced the pace of Tariq Richards early in the second half.

The K’s continued to show why they’re second in the form guide, as they started the half strongly. Once again however, chances were few and far between. In the 70th minute, Josh James produced a wonderful low save to prevent Theophanous from opening the scoring with a powerful header.

With 10 minutes remaining, Richards’ thunderous effort flew just wide of Tolfrey’s left-hand post. The visitors broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, as Buchanan finished off a good move from the K’s. The visitors held out to take all three points back up the M23.
