It might not have been a vintage display but it was the result that counted on the day and the win see’s the Hillians play either Epsom & Ewell or Croydon in the 1st Qualifying Round. They drew 1-1 on Saturday and will replay on Wednesday.

Former Hillian Matt McLean had a shot blocked by Andy Pearson, who had recovered from injury after coming off against Three Bridges five days earlier, after just two minutes and soon after Sam Gore had a shot go over for the hosts.

Eastbourne’s Peter Cooper headed wide from just a cross as both sides had chances and Hillians Rob O’Toole couldn’t get on the end of Greg Luer’s cross.

Luer was beingining to cause the visisting defence problems and on 29 minutes he had a shot from a tight angle tipped round the post for a corner by Josh Pelling.

Both sides continued to have chances in the even first half with Cooper forcing Josh James into an excellent save and O’Toole heading just wide.

Hill started the second half brightly and Neil Watts headed onto the roof of the net two minutes after the re-start.

At the other end Matt Darby headed wide under pressure from O’Toole following Joe Dryer’s corner.

Harding dragged a shot just wide of the post from the edge of the box and minutes later Sam Fisk sent a dangerous cross in to the box from the left which no one could make contact on before manager Ian Chapman made his first change of the afternoon when Gore was replaced by Scott Kirkwood.

Hillians second change on 74 minutes saw Lee Harding replace namesake Pat and it appeared an inspired substitution as five minutes later he scored what turned out to be winner.

Luer had a shot deflected for a corner and from that resulting set piece his cross was deflected into the six yard box and Lee Harding headed home.
