Two more wins may be enough for Hassocks, according to Wickwar

Hassocks joint-boss Phil Wickwar believes another two wins maybe enough to secure safety in the Premier Division.

They travel to Arundel on Saturday and Wickwar knows it’s a big game for both sides. He said: “We need possibly another two wins away at Arundel is a big game for both teams. We will travel to Arundel in a good frame of mind but we won’t take anything for granted.

“We have put in good performances in 2017 and we need to keep doing so and the results will come, taking nine points from Shoreham, Eastbourne Town and Horsham YMCA this season says that if we get it right we can pick up points from anyone, but there’s always a flip side so we have to be mentally right.”

On Hassocks’ defeat to Pagham, he said: “It was a tale of two halves. The first half we were really good and if we had gone three up they couldn’t complain.”

But after an exemplary performance in the first half, apart from a much-needed goal, the second half didn’t resemble much comparison for Hassocks.

Wickwar added: “Second half we couldn’t get going. They scored a good free-kick 15 minutes in.

“We huffed and puffed and got caught with a minute to go on the break pushing for an equaliser. It was a good performance and if we could have got in front it may have been different but that’s the way it goes.”
