VIDEO: Hillians striker Johnson to push on after disappointing loss

After narrowly losing 1-0 to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, Burgess Hill Town striker Phil Johnson remains positive about his and the clubs form in the future.

It was a game which was dramatically affected by injuries to both the linesmen and the referee, with stoppage time exceeding 20 minutes which undoubtedly stopped any tempo the game had, sinking the Hillians to their first defeat in five games.

However, Johnson feels that they still should have come away with at least a point. He told Hillians TV: “We didn’t think they played particularly well and ideally I think we should have picked up some points today.

“We missed the chance at the end but we will bounce back and go again next week.”

The former Hassocks man hit 26 goals in 39 games last season at the Beacon and got off the mark for his new club in last Tuesday’s draw at Staines Town.

He said: “I was chuffed to bits to get my goal last week.

“But I mean, for the team, no points today is disappointing. I probably should have scored for us at the end and got a point for us.”

However, after recently coming back from injury, Johnson now feels that this is his opportunity to start to get a run of games for the first team.

He added: “I will keep working hard in training, take my chances when I come on and try and get some game time.”
