“We stuck at it and deserved a draw” - Crawley Town boss John Yems content with point against a side 'fighting for their lives'

Crawley Town head coach John Yems said we need to be “realistic” - after Tom Nichols’ last minute penalty gave Crawley Town a deserved point at home to Walsall.

Crawley fell behind, after Walsall’s Emmanuel Osadebe converted from the spot, but battled hard to grab a late equaliser in a match that finished 1-1.

“We created some good chances,” said John Yems. “[But], credit to Walsall they’ve come here and had a right go at us.

“There’s no easy games. I thought we had a go at them. You never give in and if you never give in you have a chance.

“I’d be a bit gutted, if I was in their shoes [but] that’s what footballs all about.

“We kept going. We won’t give in. And the end of it, I think we deserved a draw.”

It’s seven points from the last nine and the late point tonight meant that Crawley are now five unbeaten at home.

For a side with a low budget and one that has dealt with a Covid outbreak - plus the sale of their top scorer - in January, it is impressive that the Reds are still sitting comfortably in the top half.

Despite being six points of the play-offs, Yems wants to keep the promotion talk to a minimum and says we need to be “realistic”.

“We’re not getting carried away with this promotion talk,” he explained. “There’s a lot of things to be decided.

“No one gives us a god given right to get...promoted because we’ve won a couple of games.

“We have plenty of heart and plenty of desire. That’s what will keep us going.

“We’ve got to keep going and stand up to teams. No one is going to come and let you win.

“Onwards to the next one. We’ve had some good results against some good sides.

“Let’s start saying what we haven’t done. I’m getting a bit sick of people coming up with all the negatives. There’s 12 games to go and anything can happen”.
