The determined duo, who have increased their training schedule in recent weeks, will begin their challenge at 4.30am to ensure maximum daylight usage. They will attempt to play the Cowdray course a staggering nine times in speed rounds, playing alternate shots.

They anticipate putting their final ball on the 18th and completing the challenge at 7pm.

It is testament to Cowdray teaching professional Ralph’s career and association at the highest level in the game that Davies and Johnson have committed to join the Cowdray pair for one round during their marathon.

Davies is the nation’s most accomplished female golfer of modern times. She has won the Ladies European Tour, put her name to 85 professional wins globally and is the first golfer to win tournaments in five continents in one year.

Johnson began her career as a pro in 1987 when she famously won three competitions as a rookie during the Ladies European Tour. She went on to take four victories during the 1990 tour and represented England with Laura Davies in 2007 at the Women’s Golf World Cup.

The challenge will take place behind closed doors in line with current government guidelines, with the public encouraged to show their support by entering the duo’s ‘How many steps’ competition.

All proceeds will go to Fife’s chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society. The pair will be extremely grateful for donations towards their challenge and this worthy cause.

Fife said: “The Alzheimer’s Society funds not only cutting-edge research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of dementia taking us ever closer to new treatments, but is also taking vital steps towards better care for people living with the condition today and their friends and family.

“Nearly everyone will know of or have had direct experience of someone suffering from Alzheimer’s. In my case it has affected both close family members and friends in extremely difficult circumstances which is why I feel so strongly about supporting this charity.”
