There was plenty of success as Torkington back from injury after a year off won the Women’s Open beating Lynn Trussel, Katie Holt (Hampshire) and Kate Cheer (England No 23) on the way to the semi-final. In the semi Torkington beat Sanja Clements (England No 16 – Dorset) in a well contested five-set match. The final saw Torkington take on Nayana Temml, a professional from Sweden with Torkington continuing her good form, comfortably winning the match in straight sets 11-9, 11-5, 11-5.

Burman who had been below par on Saturday returned on Sunday with a brilliant performance winning the final of the Over 40s competition beating Paul Carter (England 75).

All the Haywards Heath players performed well over the weekend against tough national and international competition, which is encouraging as next weekend Haywards Heath TTC is playing at the London Academy in the Senior British League. The squad of Ben Worsley, Bertrand Siu, Tom Pomez, Andrew Sharland, Gallagher, Burman and Torkington are currently pushing for promotion from Division 4 at their first attempt and current form should give them confidence. They are currently placed second, three points behind fellow newcomers Waterside from Hampshire and three points ahead of Urban TTC of London.
