An early goal from the visitors put Hailsham on their back-foot, but George Cyster was quick to level the score, his short-corner drag-flick deflected into the St Francis goal by a defender.

Another short corner a few moments later saw captain Lee Humber claim his third goal in as many weeks, his shot thundering past defenders and keeper to rattle the backboard.

Both teams pressed hard in the second half and through a series of impressive saves by Hailsham keeper Matt Abson, Hailsham maintained their one-goal advantage.

Towards the end of the game, with two yellow cards putting the opposition down to nine players, Hailsham sealed their win with a third goal, Humber’s quick taking of a free hit just outside the St Francis penalty area supplying Alex Smith the opportunity to deflect the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The result moves the team up to sixth in division, with next week’s match against Crowborough 1s promising to be a close game.
