Harrier Sam shines at London Marathon as Paula Radcliffe bows out

As Paula Radcliffe bowed her final goodbye amongst 38,000 runners at the London marathon on Sunday, Samantha Ridley was Haywards Heath Harrier’s own star runner completing the 26.2 miles in a new PB of 3.31.36, finishing in the top 1000 ladies and 121st in her age group.

Over the moon with her run she said she gave it all she had. ‘I was on track for sub 3.30 but by mile 22 I had nothing left and struggled to keep my pace. It was tough!’.

Andrew Biggs finished in 3.46.56, disappointed not to meet his target, but still happy to enjoy the atmosphere after injury prevented any proper training.

Mike Scholes, guided by Debbie Day enjoyed a leisurely 4.56.00 after his near three hour result last week at Manchester.

At the Angmering Bluebell trail runs, Steve Dalman finished the challenging but beautiful ten mile route in 1.05.46 for 8th place in the 280 plus field. Kim Lo received the trophy for 2nd female finishing 12th overall in 1.07.48. Amanda Soper finished in the top 20 ladies with 1.20 (result to be confirmed).

At the weekly Clair parkrun Glenn Driver was first to the finish with 17.52 for his debut run there. Will Herbert also on first run was 4th with 19.52. Worthy a mention from last weekend’s Haywards Heath Triathlon results - Harrier’s own Kat Barrett was first lady and 16th overall in the sprint distance in 1.17.54.
