400 runners took on the race - the last of 20 in this year’s Sussex Grand Prix across the counties. Notably, the Harriers’ Jack Chivers and Andy Biggs have run each of the 20 races over the season.

Coming into the race, the club was leading the League in the Men’s and Team categories with the ladies lying second. They now face an agonising wait for the season’s results to be finalised. The performances this week will do nothing but help the Club’s cause.

It was a test of strength on this undulating, two lap Crowborough course, starting and finishing at Beacon Community College, and taking on the hills of the infamous Palesgate Lane – twice.

Kim Lo (41:51) finished third lady and first in her age group. Her progress over recent months has been outstanding and this performance was further evidence of her form. Kim was also part of a trio of ladies who finished second in the team competition.

Louise Toomey (44:48) was seventh placed amongst the ladies and also third in her age group, with Izzy Coomber (44:55) eighth lady on her return to racing.

The men were also in the medals, going home with first and third places in the team competition, clocking some impressive times for this gruelling course along the way.

Russ Mullen (35:23) finished in 6th overall, closely followed in 7th by Phil Hardaway (36:08). Paul Tomlinson (36:52) and Tom Mullen (36:53) battled it out for 13th and 14th.

There were also outstanding performances from Paul Cousins (38:00) and Peter Cobbett (1:02:14) who were placed in their age groups.
