Haywards Heath Harriers brothers celebrate second places

Russ and Tom Mullen showed no sign of the illness and injury which kept them out of racing for much of the summer in Sussex Grand Prix and parkrun events.

On Sunday, in the Arena 80 AC Hove Prom 10k - the seventh staging of the race, Russ finished second in his excellent time of 35:09, behind prolific county winner James Baker.

In fine but windy conditions on Hove seafront, Russ was pleased with his performance: ‘I missed a couple of months with a virus so this was a tester to see where I was. I had hoped to go quicker but found the crosswind tough after 5km. It was quite a lonely race as James was a long way ahead but I was comfortably in second so eased off. It was good to be out racing again and it gives me something to build on towards the cross-country season.’

On the flat and fast two lap course starting and finishing at Hove Lagoon, next Harrier home and finishing strongly in 20th position was Steve Dallman in 38:24, closely followed by Phil Payne in 23rd with 38:40 and Jack Chivers in 26th with 38:55. First female Harrier and 5th lady was Mags Lazell who was pleased to dip below 41 minutes in 40:56.
