Haywards Heath rugby club plan spring rugby tour

The weather took a turn for the worse last weekend and interfered with sports fixtures in Mid Sussex with all rugby postponed at Haywards Heath RFC and, their scheduled opponents on Saturday, East Grinstead RFC, due to waterlogged pitches.

This left the rugby fanatics in the area tuning in to live TV in the Clubhouse to track the progress of former Heath players while planning an end of season tour in sunnier climes.

Former Heath juniors Ross Chisholm and Luke Wallace both featured strongly as Harlequins recorded their first Aviva premiership victory against Gloucester at Kingsholm since February 1999 in a thrilling encounter thanks to a late well-worked try. Billy Twelvetrees, also a former Heath Colt, captained Gloucester and fought valiantly throughout to secure a valuable losing bonus point for his side. Meanwhile at Twickenham Joe Marler worked tirelessly in the front row and could do no more to stop England slipping to a fifth successive defeat, losing 31-28 to an experienced South African side. Joe will be hoping to retain his place against Samoa next weekend to help ensure the recent losing streak comes to an emphatic end.

A few lucky Heath members had the opportunity to be up close and personal with current and past England players in the BMW Lounge at Twickenham on Saturday. Joe Launchbury and Owen Farrell both ventured into the hospitality area before and after the match and, thanks to Heath’s long-standing sponsorship arrangement with Vines of Gatwick BMW, pictured is Heath RFC Secretary, Sarah Fry and other Club members enjoying the BMW facilities.

With no senior rugby being played on Saturday and Heath juniors and minis moving to indoor training facilities on Sunday, thoughts at the Club have already turned to maximising the opportunities for rugby on the pitch this season. Heath senior XV have started planning their end of season tour to the West Country which will take place on the weekend of the 24-26 April 2015. Two fixtures are already confirmed against Devonport Services in Plymouth and Dorchester.
