Heath 59, Horsham II 0: Heath prepare for vital play-off with comfortable win

A good crowd turned out for Heath's final Sussex Spitfire League 1 home game of the season against mid table Horsham II at Whitemans Green and were rewarded by some strong running rugby from the home side.

Coach Jody Levett had made some positional changes as he looked to fine tune his team for the season defining play off match in two weeks time in which Heath are seeking promotion to the London & South East Divisons.

Heath were quickly out of the blocks and were onto the scoreboard within minutes of the kick off as outside centre Jack Lucas blasted his way through the Horsham defence to run in the first try of the day.

Horsham were unable to get any control of the game and the home side clinically took their chances to keep the score moving on. A try for Number 8 Ben Davies was followed up by two more from Lucas to secure his hatrick in the opening 25 minutes to take a bonus point and put the game beyond the visitors at an early stage .

Cheered on by the enthusiastic crowd Heath maintained the pressure and managed two more tries in the half from winger Tyler Edwards and scrum half Tim Hartley.

A halftime lead of 40-0 whilst maybe a little flattering to Heath certainly reflected the ruthless way they exploited the gaps in the Horsham defence .

Playing up the hill in the second half Heath found it more difficult to break through the Horsham ranks and the visitors managed to put some decent phases of play together themselves although the home sides tackling remained resolute.

Heath eventually eased away with three more tries for winger Jamie Diggle, replacement 2nd row Hugh Erritt and another try for Hartley to cap a good day at the club with a 59-0 victory .

Whilst this was a big points win there were still a number of areas that Heath will need to improve on over the next couple of weeks in order to be at their best for the big game at the end of April .

Next weekend sees Heath away at Crawley for the final league game before the grand finale to the season being the play off match against the runners up of Kent 1 at Whitemans Green on 30th April .
