Lewes pressurised the Middies defence from the start and looked to be the more dangerous in attack for the first 10 minutes.

However, Jeremy Subedar and Hamish Middleton then began to control the midfield, subsequently winning the first short corner, which Middleton smartly converted.

For the next 20 minutes all of the Middies players hit form at the same time, playing some inspired hockey, resulting next in a clinical finish by Tom Wylie. Subedar then extended the visitors’ lead to 3 and Wylie completed his brace with a glorious deflection.

To complete the rout Andrew Burchett flicked in from a well-rehearsed short corner ending a devastating passage of four goals in just seven minutes!

With Middies leading 5-0 Lewes tried in vain to impose any authority on the game and a goalless second half saw Middies comfortably home, thanks to solid defending from Capita MoM David Heine and skipper Steve Hillier.

This important victory leaves Middies 4th from bottom and 6 points ahead of Lewes with every chance of avoiding relegation this season.
