Despite 55mph coastal winds battering runners at the Brooks Brighton 10k on Sunday, the Haywards Heath Harriers faired well with times far better than expected in the tough conditions.
21 Harriers joined almost 3,000 steely runners for the typically fast, flat course along the seafront of Brighton & Hove, starting and finishing on Madeira Drive.
Russ Mullen was first Harrier home in 24th position in a very strong field, clocking 34:53. Brother Tom also ran well in 36:15. Barry Tullett took 40 seconds off his previous best and breaking 39 minutes for the first time in 38:41. Julian Boyer clocked an impressive 39:23, Verity Coombes secured a new PB in 47:19 and Marion Hemsworth won her age group in 51:55.

SPORTS HALL LEAGUE –
SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
TANBRIDGE HOUSE SCHOOL, HORSHAM
The first round of the Sussex Sports Hall League fixture was held at Tanbridge House School. Despite being short of athletes in the U15 age group, both teams finished in fourth place. This was a great team effort with all the events covered in the U11 and U13 age groups.
Performances of the day came from Harriet Dray winning the U11 Girls speed bounce, brother Adam Dray winning the U13 Boys four Lap Race and second in the Speed Bounce and Dean Bryant winning the U15 Boys Vertical Jump.
There was also a great performance from Theo Maton in winning the U13 Boys B String 2 Lap Sprint. There were also solid 2nd places for Derval Branagan (U15 2 Lap Sprint B String), Martha Hayes (U11 Speed Bounce B String), Tobias Hersey (U13 Vertical Jump), Cameron Reed (U11 Boys Speed Bounce) and the U13 Boys 4 x 2 Lap Relay (Adam Dray, Theo Maton, Tobias Hersey, Ethan Lambert).
