It seemed this week that if there was a race taking place, Burgess Hill Runners were in some way involved. From 5 miles to 38 miles and spanning several counties, the ‘blue army’ were doing their club proud.

Paul Sargent literally topped the bill at the Downslink Ultra. 38 miles of running on the old Downslink from Surrey to Sussex were no match for Paul who finished 1st with a mind blowing time of 4:57. He was also joined by Jason Collett (5:40), Sharona Harrington (6:06), Neil Dawson (6:55), Nick Dawson (7:55) and Jan Lavis who ran 21 miles as a ‘sweeper’ in 5 hours.

Also in ‘Ultra’ territory was Helen Pratt who completed the LDWA’s Founders’ Challenge, a 27 mile event in the Surrey Hills, in a time of 8 hours 20.

Across the English Channel, Debbie Saint completed the Jersey Marathon in 4:09:56. Mark Nicholls completed the Bournemouth Marathon in 3:23:37 with Emma Goodhead not far behind in 3:45:22. In the Bournemouth Half Marathon Jonathan Leak led the Burgess Hill contingent with a time of 1:51:37 followed by Jean Leak (1:59:22), Kim Gow (2:16:49) and Jayne White (2:10:35)

Marie and John Carey were in Cardiff for the Half Marathon and did the club proud with times of 2:01:41 and 2:06:43 respectively. Hannah Brett and Allie Wood finished together at the Tonbridge Half with matching times of 2:23:37.

Finally, favouring a shorter, faster race, Carole Mills completed the Rise 8k in Saltdean in a speedy 40:48.
