When you think of Roy Castle, four things come to mind – Record Breakers, tap dancing, trumpet playing and a wonderfully cheesy smile.

Thirty-three lucky youngsters were subjected to the full force of that smile when the met the star on Christmas Eve in 1974.

The children, from Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint saw his Christmas Show in Croydon thanks to money from Burgess Hill District Lions Club and the Guildford Lions Club.

Before the show, they were given an ice cream and a novelty hat, supplied by Lyons Maid, and afterwards, they met Roy and his co-star Mrs Mills, who autographed their hats.

Not everyone was lucky enough to meet the marvellous Roy – but they enjoyed their parties none-the-less.

The other pictures show youngsters at the Bain Dawes children’s party and the St Wilfrid’s playgroup party.

Meanwhile, Adrian Beard and his accordion were the centre of attention at the Ditchling Village Association annual children’s party.
