There was also the small matter of celebrating the group’s diamond jubilee to consider.

This picture was published in the Mid Sussex Times .

It shows the girls with some of their guests as they prepared to cut the jubilee cake in the canteen at Lindfield Junior School.

Among the guests were Sylvia Smith, county commissioner for Sussex Central Girl Guides; and district commissioner Sheila Horne.

A number of ‘old girls’ also joined the celebration, including Margaret Cooper, a former guider, who iced the cake.

Phyllis Bartlett, who was the oldest ex-Guide present, was given the honour of cutting the cake with the help of one Brownie and one Guide.

The evening also saw
two members – Ann Hagger and Lynn Davis – receive their leadership warrants, while seven of the Guides received their first aider badge.

Does anyone recognise any of the girls in this picture?
