Novice Wins at Staines Regatta

Last weekend a small squad of Ardingly rowers competed at Staines upon Thames Regatta.

It was a very successful trip for Abi Buck, Avalon Ridler and Lizzie Feakes who all came away with their first sculling wins - Lizzie

in her single scull and Avalon and Abi together in a double scull. In rowing the first win is very special and denotes a move from Novice to

Senior status - it is traditionally marked by being thrown into the river (like the cox at the end of the Boat Race).

Our three winning women were thrilled to meet GB Rowing Team athlete, Polly Swann, who was there to watch her cousin Billy race for Ardingly in a double

scull. Billy and his partner Alex won two rounds but missed out by a whisker in the final.
